Chateau de Lascaux

AC Coteaux du Languedoc

North of Montpelier, heading into the mountains, there is some of the most spectacular countryside to be seen in the Languedoc, with the limestone teeth of the majestic Pic Saint Loup standing over the pretty villages below.  It is in the peaceful village of Vacquières that Jean-Benoit Cavalier and his GP wife make wines of superb quality from this savage terroir of infertile rocky soil.  We have enjoyed some lovely wines from the Cavaliers over the past 10 years, and the new '99 whites are as delicious as ever.  However, the new reds from the superb '98 vintage are truly outstanding!

The demand for these wines has been so great, that we have been restricted to a very limited quota this year.

We have put together a case of 6 bottles of each wine :

Chateau de Lascaux Rouge “Classique” 1999                                      £4.95 Côteaux du Languedoc Like its 1993 predecessor, this is ready for current drinking.  It is made from 75% Syrah with 25% Grenache, to produce a soft delicious easy-drinking style, full of summer fruit flavours.

Chateau de Lascaux Rouge “Les Nobles Pierres” 1999                                      £6.95 Cru Pic Saint Loup The fabulous award-winning “Nobles Pierres” is made from older vines, with 90% Syrah and 10% Grenache, which is then aged in oak barrels.  It is a deep-coloured wine with a wonderful ripe damsony nose with hints of new oak.  On the palate it is a silky,  complex wine, full of ripe fruit. It has soft tannins, which make it delicious to drink now but will enable it to last for at least 5 years. Not a blockbuster, but a wine of great elegance.  Another star performer!
