YMS Annual Dinner Friday 7th October 2011
We are extremely lucky in York to have a very old and active Medical Society, and the opportunity to use the historic Merchant Adventurers Hall. This delightful building has been the focal point for our annual dinners for many years and the wonderful ambience is a perfect catalyst for medical practitioners, past and present and from different specialities, to meet up and celebrate our Society. This year the Wine Club committee has been busy as usual choosing wines to match the wonderful menu, that has been specially devised for the occasion. We always feel it is a great opportunity to show YMSWC members some of the marvellous wines we keep in the cellars.
I’ve had a preview of the menu, as we selected the wines for it, and it looks very tempting! Bleikers Smokehouse Platter of Honey Roast Salmon Mousse, Lemon and Pepper Salmon and Smoked Trout with Dill and Lemon Crème Fraîche Dressing Vegetarian Option: Asparagus and Chargrilled Artichoke Salad with Toasted Pine Nuts and Salsa Verde
***
*** Vegetarian Option: Vegetable Tagine with Toasted Almond Cous Cous *** Champagne Berry Jelly with Vanilla Mascarpone and Shortbread Biscuit *** Yorkshire Cheese Platter with Celery, Grapes and Fruit Chutney: Ye Olde York, Yorkshire Blue, Old Peculiar, Mature Wensleydale
The Wines : All the wines have been selected by the YMSWC commitee, imported from the vineyards and then kept in the cellars specially for the dinner. To welcome you we will have the elegant sparkler - made by a Champenois in the mountainous Limoux area near Carcassone - J Laurens "Les Graimenous" Crémant de Limoux . There is the delicious Château Lamothe Vincent Sauvignon 2009 from Bordeaux to go with the starter and soup. The award-winning Domaine La Bastide Syrah Les Genêts Vieilles Vignes 2009, which is fabulously rich yet elegant, will be the perfect partner for the main course, The stunning dessert wine, a combination of Viognier and Muscat late harvested grapes - is one of our new exciting discoveries this year - Domaine Madeleine Saint Jean 2010 and will be sublime with the dessert and cheese. Normally to have this combination, variety and quality of wines at a restaurant would be prohibitively expensive. We strongly believe that you will be very impressed by the value that you get from a ticket. It would be great to see lots of you from the Wine Club - after all, our wines are at their best with food! Please send your cheques, for £60 per person, and booking form to Paul Herring at 23 Stonegate, YO1 8AW as indicated in the recent YMS circular. We look forward to meeting up with many of you at 7.30 pm on Friday 7th October !
