Two Exotic White Wines
for late Summer!

For August we have come up with two lively fruit-driven whites that just beg to be drunk now!  They are both a new experience in white wine and one that we have been happily glugging in the garden recently.

One comes from the Southern tip of Western Australia and is in effect an Australian take on White Graves.  The other comes from Sicily from the indigenous grape variety of Grillo, which has delicious mouth-watering peachy fruit flavours and is rather like a more refined, subtle version of Viognier.

We're offering a Mixed Case of 6 bottles of each  -

Italia Grillo 2008                                                                                                                           £4.95 We are always on the lookout for exciting new wines and Italy has a treasure chest full of fantastically individual grape varieties, that are never seen elsewhere.  Grillo is just one of these varieties and is much sought after.  This particular example is a deserved ISWC Silver Medal winner, and at a fantastic price.

From Sicily it is made from 100% Grillo by winemaker Claudio Manera, working with two cellars in the coastal zone at the western tip of Sicily with vineyards in the Petrosino, Trapani and Marzara del Vallo areas.

This unusual white wine is an attractive pale gold colour, and has ripe pineapple and gentle tropical aromas, while the palate is packed with peachy fruit and fresh citrus flavours, finishing with a delicate minerality. Sublime with Monkfish!

Fonty's Pool Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon                                                                            £6.95  Located in the rolling hills of Manjimup in Pemberton, Western Australia, Fonty's Pool was named after a local landowner ('Fonty') whom dammed up a natural spring to create the first 'Manji' town pool almost 80 years ago.

A small portion of each variety has been fermented separately in new and 2nd use oak barrels, of which a small percentage underwent “wild” fermentation, while the remainder was inoculated with a range of yeast. This technique adds some depth and texture to the blend. The barrel batches were lees stirred weekly prior to the barrels being racked for blending in early May in preparation for bottling in June. The final blend is 50%Sauvignon Blanc and 45% Semillon with 5% Chardonnay

On the nose there are delicate aromas of citrus blossom and freshly cut herbs. It has a pure-fruit impact of pineapple and mango, crisp acidity and bright quenching flavours of lime zest, finishing with a hint of savouriness.  Refined, succulent, fresh and clean, it is perfect for current drinking. If you like New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, you’ll love this!
